How does the ease of reading compare?
Readability is a big one because we all know that staring at a computer screen is very bad for your eyes and essentially the Kindle is a little computer screen. However, with the new technology that they use on the Kindle 2, it does not hurt your eyes. The Kindle 2’s page layout is the exact same as a regular book’s layout with one exception, you can make the print bigger or smaller with the push of a button.
Can you get lost in the story when you read it on a Kindle 2?
One of the greatest appeals of reading a book is that you are able to get lost in the story. I see a movie playing in my head and I don’t even realize that I am turning pages or reading words. This offers the ability to fully relax and leave reality for a while.
I was quite surprised that I am able to get lost in the story when I read with the Kindle 2. I don’t stay that way for as long and I takes me a little bit longer but that is most likely due to not being used to how to turn pages. I’m sure over time it will get easier when I become used to hitting a button to turn the pages.
What about purchasing a book? How does the Kindle 2 and the traditional book compare?
If you want to read a new traditional book you will have to go to the store. This can be time consuming and if you are like me and have kids your free time is severely limited. If you are fortunate, the time it will take you to go buy a book and start reading it will be less then 45 minutes. I am not usually this fortunate. This is one of my favorite things about the Kindle 2. I can pick the book I want, pay for it and be reading it in under two minutes.
What about the price of the book? Is it about the same?
The books for the most part are cheaper on the Kindle then they are when you buy them from the store. The new releases cost 10 dollars compared to 20 dollars and many of the older books cost 3-7 dollars while the same ones in the store cost 5-8 dollars. The difference might be because they don’t have to print the books out. Where it is more expensive to use the Kindle 2 is the upfront cost of buying the system. Over time it pretty much evens itself out.
